When you hit enter, Google then crawls the internet (also the world wide web, hence the crawling) and finds websites that contain keywords, phrases and information that are relevant to your query.
It may sound pretty basic, but it’s actually quite complex and there are a variety of factors that contribute to how likely a website is to be found easily by Google, Bing or the like. An analysis by Moz, 20.94 percent of Google ranking factors was comprised of domain-level, link authority features. These include the quantity of links to the site, the quantity of trusted sites linking to your site, the Page Rank, etc.
